The Story Behind the Taste: ROKA, a Tradition of Quality:
The history of ROKA began in 1949 in Delft, with its founding by Jo Roodenrijs and the name being an abbreviation of ROodenrijs KAastabletten (Cheese Tablets). After moving to Emmeloord in 1984 and the acquisition by Wim Bontje in 2002, significant investments were made in modern production techniques while respecting the original family recipes. Since 2016, Peter Destrooper and Wim Van Roy have continued this tradition. ROKA is known for its commitment to quality. The biscuits are still baked according to the original recipe from 1949 and contain a high percentage of mature Gouda cheese (but also Cheddar and Parmigiano Reggiano). Only 12-month matured Gouda cheese from the wheel is used, without any additives or preservatives. The refined puff pastry, with no less than 90 layers, ensures the unique structure. The BRC and IFS certifications underscore the high quality standards.
